Kantar Sports Media and Sporting News Media have released an annual report showing a rise in mobile sports consumption among other viewing trends. The study’s findings include:
-35% of America’s 170 million fans follow sports on mobile devices, up an impressive 21% from 2011.
-15% of people admitted to using “unofficial” or pirated streams to view sports content.
-Only 7% of fans claim to watch sports through connected TVs, including gaming consoles, but 47% of THAT number is made up of 18-24-year-olds.
-25% of fans follow sports on some sort of social media platform, with Facebook being the most popular.
-Females make up 51% of sports fans on social media.
Data such as this should only encourage media rights deals like NFL and Verizon’s recent $1 billion smartphone streaming partnership.
