Fans of HBO’s True Blood have a new show to bite into with Midnight, Texas, also from author Charlaine Harris, coming to NBC on Monday, July 24 at 10/9 pm.

To introduce the supernaturally-themed series, NBC took over San Diego’s Tin Fish in the Gaslamp with an activation for fans to walk through as well as Tarot card readings.

While virtual-reality experiences are popular at San Diego Comic-Con, Midnight, Texas’ more resembles a theme-park ride. Attendees start with an introductory visit from the main character Manfred’s dead grandmother, who informs you that because you have “the gift” you can see her. She then escorts you through the world in which Midnight, Texas is set. And things in Midnight seem distinctly unsettled.

According to the show’s lore, the reason Midnight, Texas, is so weird is because – kind of like the Hellmouth in Buffy, the Vampire Slayer— the town actually sits atop a portal to hell. Almost everyone in the town has something distinctly different about them. For example, Manfred (François Arnaud) is a psychic, while Lemuel (Peter Mensah) is an old, wise and powerful vampire and Joe (Jason Lewis) is an angel who’s been on Earth for millennia.

In the end, you somehow escape with your life back into the warm San Diego sun, but not before you’ve been given a little taste of the show.

Midnight, Texas stars Arnaud, Dylan Bruce, Parisa Fitz-Henley, Arielle Kebbel, Lewis, Mensah, Sarah Ramos and Yul Vázquez.

Monica Owusu-Breen—who’s also worked on such shows as Charmed, Lost, Alias, Brothers & Sisters and Fringe —serves as writer and executive producer. David Janollari and Director Niels Arden Oplev, who also directed USA’s Mr. Robot, executive produce. Midnight, Texas is produced by Universal Television and David Janollari Entertainment.
