A masked and bloody Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) will soon be back for season three of Marvel’s Daredevil, and the superhero has taken a dark turn.

“You can suffocate evil, starve it, lock it behind bars, but it will find a way to come back even stronger,” he says in Netflix’s date announcement trailer. “There’s only one true way to end evil … to finish it for good. Let the devil out.”

Season three of Daredevil is based on the comic Born Again, and will return October 19 after a more than two year hiatus. Daredevil was last seen in Netflix’s The Defenders crossover series, which ended with a building exploding around him.

In the meantime, seasons of Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Daredevil spinoff The Punisher have aired.

The superhero’s renewed sense of darkness establishes a theme that the key art draws from as well.
