“Once somebody’s convicted, they have to move mountains to get out of prison,” according to Netflix’s trailer for Making a Murderer: Part 2.

And that’s what the documentary series chronicles as it follows the post conviction process of Steven Avery and his co-defendant Brendan Dassey, and lawyer Kathleen Zellner’s fight to exonerate them.

After chronicling the journey of Avery from DNA exoneree and reformer to convicted murderer in Netflix’s 2015 series, filmmakers Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos return to the Midwest to explore the emotional toll the process has had on all involved, and promising new information in proving their innocence.

“If this is case is solid; if he’s guilty,” says Zellner in the trailer, “I’ll fail.”
