“A new villain rises, a queen takes the throne in Harlem, cracks begin to form in the once unbreakable hero” when Luke Cage returns to Netflix.

Season two introduces Bushmaster (Mastafa Shakir, The Deuce), a New York crime lord from the Caribbean who can take a bullet just as well as Luke (Mike Colter), and dish out punches that render the superhero not so invincible after all.

With the rise of this new foe, Luke is forced to confront the fine line that separates hero from villain in season two. After clearing his name he’s become a celebrity on the streets—“everybody talking about Luke Cage like he’s Jesus” according to the trailer—but this new visibility has only increased his need to protect the community and find the limits of who he can and can’t save. In the struggle, will he find himself consumed by the very darkness he is fighting against?

Season two is executive produced by showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker (Ray Donovan), Jim Chory (Marvel’s Jessica Jones), and Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Jessica Jones), who also serves as Marvel’s Head of Television. The premiere episode of season two is directed by Lucy Liu (Future World).

The cast also features Simone Missick (Ray Donovan), Alfre Woodard (12 Years a Slave), Theo Rossi (Sons of Anarchy), Gabrielle Dennis (Rosewood) and Rosario Dawson (Marvel’s Daredevil).

Luke Cage premieres June 22 on Netflix.
