Crowds of viewers couldn’t resist checking out Ryan Murphy’s latest fright-fest, American Horror Story: Hotel, which added Lady Gaga to the cast this go-round. The latest iteration of his anthology claiming a total of 12.2 million viewers in live +3 day ratings, according to Nielsen Media Research.
With those numbers, American Horror Story: Hotel has become FX’s second-highest rated series debut in the network’s history, second only to American Horror Story: Freak Show last year, which averaged 10 million viewers when it premiered.
The Wednesday, Oct. 7, premiere of AHS: Hotel saw 9 million viewers tune in, and 6 million among the key adults 18-49 demographic. The show’s debut then steadily added viewers with delayed viewing, an encore airing and streaming on FX platforms through Sunday.
FX also claims that AHS: Hotel is the No. 3 show of all new and returning series this fall in adults 18-34, falling only behind AMC’s The Walking Dead, which has yet to report ratings since its Oct. 11 season debut.
The series premiere was also a social media hit, generating more than 878,000 tweets with almost 43 million impressions on Twitter.
American Horror Story: Hotel returns for its second episode on Wednesday, Oct. 14, when more flashbacks reveal a bit more about the hotel’s first owner (Evan Peters).
