Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer has extended is contract with the independent studio until May 2023, the company said Thursday.
“We are pleased to extend Jon’s tenure as CEO until 2023, providing Lionsgate with great continuity as he and Michael Burns continue to lead the Company’s evolution into a vertically integrated global content platform that unlocks strategic opportunities for our business and creates long-term value for shareholders,” said Lionsgate Chairman of the Board Dr. Mark Rachesky in a statement.
In June, under Feltheimer’s guidance, Lionsgate announced it would acquire premium cable network Starz for $4.4 billion. It also took strategic investments in Pilgrim Media Group, Discovery Communications, Liberty Global and the UK’s Primal Media.

Feltheimer has been CEO of the company since 2000, during which time he’s grown it into a feature-film studio averaging nearly $2 billion at the box office, including such franchises as The Hunger Games. On the TV side, Lionsgate produces nearly 80 series, including CBS’ reboot of MacGyver, Netflix’s Orange is the New Black, Epix’s Graves, AMC’s Mad Men and ABC-now-CMT’s Nashville.
Lionsgate also owns syndicator Debmar-Mercury, which produces and distributes such syndicated programs as The Wendy Williams Show and distributes such shows as Family Feud and Celebrity Name Game, both produced by FremantleMedia North America.
