Lifetime is celebrating its core audience during Women’s History Month with female-focused programming across all of its platforms—on-air, social and digital.
Considering the question of “What if…,” Lifetime wonders what might have been had certain celebrated women not pursued their dreams to create change in the world. The spots feature the legacies of such famous females as the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Indian activist Malala Yousafzai, Vice President Kamala Harris, civil-rights activitst Rosa Parks, feminist Gloria Steinem and more.
Programming during the month includes Danielle Brooks (Netflix’s Orange is the New Black) starring as Mahalia Jackson, the woman who encouraged the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to make his now iconic “I Have a Dream” speech.
In addition, Lifetime is dedicating its Fierce Female Fridays social franchise to four influential women during the month, with the first Asian-American Congresswoman Patsy Mink (D-HI) on March 5; Ellen Ochoa, the first Hispanic woman in space, on March 12; environmental activist Greta Thunberg on March 19; and the first female and first person of color to be elected vice president of the United States, Kamala Harris, on March 26.
Harris, along with Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominee Andra Day (The United States vs. Billie Holiday), also will be featured in Lifetime’s end-of-the-month special, Women Making History, airing Tuesday, March 30 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
The special features an exclusive interview with Harris and will profile Day as well as highlight the contributions of immunologist Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett, who helped found the vaccine being used to fight Covid-19; Native American activist Crystal Echo Hawk and Nobel Peace Prize winner and sexual assault survivor and activist Amanda Nguyen.
“For over 35 years, we’ve known the power of women at Lifetime, and have championed their stories and their triumphs,” said Paul Buccieri, president and chairman A+E Networks Group, in a statement. “Women Making History is a testament to the incredible strength and resiliency of women, who continue to hold up half the sky, and will continue to inspire change for our future.”
Women Making History will re-air on Wednesday, March 31 at 8 p.m. ET on LMN.
The special is directed by Dawn Porter of Trilogy Films and executive produced by Sharon Scott of Category 6 Media group. Amy Winter and Shura Davison executive produce for Lifetime.
