A Who’s Who of A-Listers will help CBS celebrate David Letterman’s late night reign, with everyone from Oprah to Jerry Seinfeld to Tina Fey set to appear in the weeks leading up to the May 20 finale, the network said Monday.
Altogether, CBS has already booked more than 30 top shelf celebs for the six-week countdown to the final Late Show,
Other stars making the pilgrimage to CBS’ Ed Sullivan Theater include Robert Downey, Jr., Will Ferrell, Tom Hanks, Jack Hanna, Scarlett Johansson, Michael Keaton, Steve Martin, Bill Murray, Sarah Jessica Parker, Don Rickles, Julia Roberts, Ray Romano, Paul Rudd, Jerry Seinfeld, Martin Short, Howard Stern, John Travolta, Bruce Willis, Oprah Winfrey, The Avett Brothers and Brandi Carlile, Elvis Costello, Dave Matthews Band, Emmylou Harris, Norah Jones, Mumford and Sons, Ralph Stanley and Amos Lee.
The high-powered guest list allows CBS to position Letterman’s retirement—already a major television milestone—as a six-week event, and generate additional excitement and anticipation for the finale.
Letterman is retiring after 33 years as a late night host—the longest tenure in TV history. Stephen Colbert will take over his time slot and desk in the Fall.
James Corden has already debuted his new version of the Late Late Show in the 12:35am perch, earning kudos for shaking up the format and experimenting with new segments and gags designed to appeal to a younger audience.
