Buenos Aires-based agency Le Cube takes viewers on a journey through ‘80s and ‘90s video games and pop culture in this short film for Cartoon Network Latin America’s OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes.

According to Le Cube, “the universe of CN’s creation is filled with all that nerd and pop culture so dear to us, especially those who were born in the late 80’s and 90’s. Taking inspiration from the animes that made mornings exciting and the hours of Double Dragon and Sonic The Hedgehog played at the local arcade (right next to the neighborhood bodega), the film explores — in an effortless flow — the mix between different references, so important to the overall tone of the cartoon, and unique art styles that coexist, but were also chosen specifically to match the characteristics and personalities of each character.”

OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes is an animated series created by Adventure Time‘s Ian Jones-Quartey. It started as a short film with Cartoon Network eventually picking it up as a series. Season two premiered on May 5.

The show is set in the year of 201X, and follows K.O.‘s efforts to become the world’s greatest superhero while simultaneously working at Gar’s Bodega. Helping him in his heroic efforts are his best friends and co-workers Radicles, a narcissistic alien, and Enid, a levelheaded big sister-like ninja.
