The latest entry to Marvel Studios’ TV canon, Echo, drops all five episodes on both Hulu and Disney Plus on Friday, January 9, marking the first time a Marvel show will premiere on both Disney-owned streaming platforms.

The trailers indicate that the show is far more violent than Marvel’s previous TV series, and that has earned it a TV-MA rating.

Marvel viewers first saw Echo star Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) in Hawkeye, where she showed up as a fierce antagonist to Jeremy Renner’s archer and Avenger. The series also stars Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson “Kingpin” Fisk, Echo’s adopted father and mentor.

Echo is the first series under the Marvel Spotlight banner, which intends to bring more grounded, character-driven stories to the screen, according to Marvel. Under this new banner, Echo and series like it will focus on street-level stakes over larger MCU continuity – meaning that viewers won’t have had to watch any other Marvel series to understand the plot. Marvel Spotlight is rooted in Marvel Comics’ 85-year publishing history: Spotlight was an anthology comic book series first introduced in 1971 and was the origin of such lesser-known Marvel characters as Ghost Rider and Spider-Woman.

The series also stars Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Devery Jacobs, Zahn McClarnon and Cody Lightning, with Graham Greene.

Episodes of the series are directed by Sydney Freeland and Catriona McKenzie. Executive producers are Kevin Feige, Stephen Broussard, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Victoria Alonso, Richie Palmer, Jason Gavin, Marion Dayre and Sydney Freeland. Co-executive producers are Jennifer L. Booth and Amy Rardin.
