It’s starting to seem like HBO gets all the best people.

Just three months after leaving his 16-year stint as host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, Jon Stewart has signed a four-year production pact with HBO, said Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming on Tuesday.

Stewart — who took a hiatus from The Daily Show in summer 2013 to direct his first feature-length film, Rosewater — will launch his new stint with HBO with short-form digital content to be showcased on the network’s digital services, HBO NOW, HBO GO and other platforms. The deal also includes a first-look option for any other film and TV ventures authored by Stewart.

“I’m so excited to be working with [HBO Chairman and CEO] Richard [Plepler], Michael and the entire HBO family,” said Stewart in a statement. “Appearing on television 22 minutes a night clearly broke me. I’m pretty sure I can produce a few minutes of content every now and again.”

Stewart joins a growing stable of non-fiction talent at HBO that includes his former Comedy Central mentee, John Oliver, and Bill Simmons, who controversially left ESPN earlier this year.

Initially, Stewart and his production company are working with pioneering cloud graphics company OTOY Inc. to develop new technology that will allow him to produce timely short-form digital content, which will be refreshed on HBO NOW multiple times throughout the day. Additional projects will be announced as they are confirmed, said HBO.

“Jon Stewart led a revolution that changed the face of TV comedy on the ‘Daily Show,’” said Lombardo, also in a statement. “He graced our network nearly 20 years ago, so we’re thrilled to welcome back his immense talents in this next chapter of his career.”

This is not Stewart’s first go-round with HBO. Prior to becoming host of The Daily Show in 1999, Stewart starred in his own stand-up comedy special on the premium network, Jon Stewart: Unleavened. He also hosted the special George Carlin: 40 Years of Comedy and appeared on Mr. Show with Bob and David (now being rebooted on Netflix) and had a recurring role on The Larry Sanders Show.
