ABC’s first trailer for its new drama,The Family, shines the spotlight on Oscar-nominee Joan Allen, who stars in the upcoming political thriller.

The series features a family that’s shaken to the core when the presumed dead young son of politician Claire Warren (Allen) resurfaces after disappearing a decade earlier.

Now the Mayor of Red Pines, Maine, she is considering running for governor when suddenly Adam (Liam James) reappears. His homecoming is initially met with astonishment and joy, and results in the immediate release of the Warrens’ neighbor, Hank Asher (Andrew McCarthy), who was convicted of his murder. But suspicions soon begin to emerge, forcing the case to be brought into question as the entire family re-examines who they are and unearths long-buried secrets, betrayals and heartache.

Allen describes the series to wbt.com as “suspenseful and tantalizing,” but “not to the point where you get frustrated like, ‘I want to know the answer to this.‘”

The series will debut with a special premiere on Thursday, March 3 at 9/8 c, followed by a second episode in its regular timeslot on Sunday, March 6 at 9/8 c.
