Talk about miraculous - The CW delivered one of its most successful nights on Monday with the series premiere of Jane the Virgin following its lead-in of The Originals.

Jane the Virgin delivered 1.6 million viewers for its 9 p.m. debut, which is also the biggest audience for that Monday time slot since February 2012, and the biggest viewership to date from adults 18-49 since the finale of Gossip Girl.

The show is an adaptation of a Venezuelan telenovela in which a woman gets accidentally artificially inseminated, resulting in a surprise pregnancy for the girl who promised to remain a virgin until marriage.

With the new Monday lineup, The CW is up 51 percent in total viewers over this time last year. The network’s other new show this fall, The Flash, also delivered promising numbers with a premiere Oct. 7 with more than 4.5 million viewers, becoming the most-watched series debut for The CW since The Vampire Diaries.
