Awkward humor is at all an time high in HBO’s latest trailer for Insecure, which should be no surprise since the new series is executive produced by and stars Youtuber Issa Rae, creator of the Awkward Black Girl webisodes.
Rae is the third ever black woman to create and star in her own show, and the first to do so for premium cable, Co.Create reports. She’s preceded by Sherri Shepherd and Wanda Sykes.
The half-hour comedy also stars Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis and Lisa Joyce, and explores the friendship, experiences and tribulations of two black women. Prentice Penny, Melina Matsoukas, Michael Rotenberg, Dave Beck and Jonathan Berry also serve as executive producers, with Larry Wilmore as a consultant.
Insecure premieres October 9 at 10:30 p.m.
