AMC revealed a first trailer for the return of Into the Badlands that’s as bloody as expected, and introduces a new enemy into the post-apocalyptic martial arts series.
In season three, Sunny (Daniel Wu), an elite killer, is doing his best to raise his infant son, Henry. But when the boy contracts a strange illness, Sunny must join forces with Baije (Nick Frost) and journey back into the Badlands in search of a cure.
“This is not my war,” he says in AMC’s official trailer for the series. “I’m just trying to get a sick kid through the lines.”
Meanwhile, The Widow (Emily Beecham) and Baron Chau (Eleanor Matsuura) are engaged in an all-out war as fanatical cult leader Pilgrim (Babou Ceesay) emerges on the scene with plans to “build a new kingdom,” and asks M.K. (Aramis Knight, Enders Game) to help him.
He promisies to bring back hope with the mantra “join us or die”—also the title of the trailer.
“I’ve come to offer you salvation,” he says. “All I ask is that you submit to your messiah.”
The series also stars Ella-Rae Smith (Clique) as Nix, Lewis Tan (Iron Fist) as Gaius, Dean-Charles Chapman (Game of Thrones) as Castor and Sherman Augustus as Nathaniel Moon.
Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville) are executive producers, showrunners and writers, along with with executive producers Stacey Sher (Django Unchained), Michael Shamberg (Contagion), David Dobkin (The Judge), Stephen Fung (Tai Chi Zero), Michael Taylor (Turn: Washington’s Spies) and Wu.
Into the Badlands returns April 22 on AMC.
