CBS’ focus on summer series is extending to its streaming partners, but don’t expect to see those deals for premieres on the broadcast net this fall.

CBS and Amazon signed a licensing deal last summer for “Under the Dome” that gave Prime Instant Video each episode four days after its on-air premiere. Amazon is now also the exclusive premium subscription service under an extended deal for “Extant,” the Halle Berry-starrer coming to CBS July 9. Both series are co-productions of CBS Television Studios and Amblin Television.

The four-day window means that “Under the Dome” episodes air on CBS Monday nights, then head to Amazon on Fridays, giving CBS time for Live+3 ratings and Amazon a solid weekend debut for streaming and delayed viewers.

Last December, CBS CEO Leslie Moonves put the price of each “Under the Dome” episode in the Amazon deal at $700,000, and according to a source, that might be up to $900,000 this summer, reports Variety. Amazon’s director of digital video, Brad Beale, says “Under the Dome” was Prime Instant Video’s most-streamed series last summer.

According to CBS Entertainment chairman Nina Tassler, this arrangement works perfectly with CBS’ summer serialized dramas, but there are no plans moving forward to have four-day windows on Amazon for primetime shows throughout the year, though the broadcaster has since been approached about possible SVOD deals for other franchises and shows.

Brief Take: CBS’ miniseries take advantage of a summer TV season when its other primetime shows are on hiatus, bringing in viewers to the network but also streaming partners to the mix as well.
