Imaginary Forces’ Karin Fong took home her second Emmy for main-title design at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards over the weekend. Fong won for her work on the main title sequence of Starz’ Counterpart, starring J. K. Simmons. It’s also the second consecutive main title Emmy for Imaginary Forces, which won for its ‘80s-themed opening sequence for Netflix’s Stranger Things last year.

Fong and Imaginary Forces beat out nominees for TNT’s The Alienist, Netflix’s Altered Carbon, Netflix’s GLOW and HBO’s Westworld.

Besides her two wins, Fong has been nominated a total of seven times for her main title designs, including for Exxon Mobil Masterpiece Theatre’s American Collection, Chuck, Human Target, Rubicon, Boardwalk Empire and Black Sails. Fong was also recently recognized with the 2018 AIGA Medal for her work in the field of visual storytelling as a motion graphics designer and director for more than twenty years at Imaginary Forces.

Said Fong: “Opening titles are an invitation. Good ones stir feelings of anticipation, making it easy for the viewer to join in. The title sequence becomes a passageway into the show. It says, ‘Pay attention, now—you are leaving your everyday life behind.’ It’s the curtain that rises up, telling you to suspend your disbelief. It’s the ‘Once upon a time…’ that signifies a story is about to unfold.”
