The slow holiday season ended with a bang on January 4, with both CES and TCA happening this week and NATPE and RealScreen in the near future.
Those events brought plenty of big announcements, starting with Netflix CEO Reed Hastings officially declaring Netflix a global TV service, with its expansion into 130 more territories, including South Korea, Afghanistan, Angola, Antarctica, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Benin, Bouvet Island, Botswana, Congo, Central African Republic, Congo, Cote d Ivoire, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Western Sahara, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Gambia, Guinea, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Heard Island, the McDonald Islands, and more.
TCA didn’t take long to get started either, with Comedy Central, A&E, History, Lifetime, Nat Geo, Turner, Discovery and HBO all kicking of winter press tour with big announcements:
Winter TCA 2016: Comedy Central Renews ‘Inside Amy Schumer,’ ‘Broad City’

Winter TCA 2016: Greg Daniels Pilot Comes to TBS, ‘Tales from the Crypt’ Revived at TNT

In non-CES or -TCA news, Nexstar looked to be the winner of the fight over who would get Media General, although Media General shareholders will likely have to come to the rescue to finally get Meredith to drop its bid for the broadcast group.

And on the creative side, Awesome Inc. stayed true to its name and made this awesome ident for Adult Swim.
