The weekend is almost here but before you go off to enjoy pumpkin carving and apple cider, because that’s what people do in the fall, here’s a look at the week that was.
Most of the fall season has launched, but The CW still has one big show to premiere with Crazy Ex-Girlfriend debuting on Monday, Oct. 12. It was enough of a priority for the network that it put the show at the center of its fall marketing push.

Now that we’re mostly past fall premieres, it’s time to look toward another annual highlight: Halloween.
This year, SyFy and ABC Family are planning nearly month-long events, but other networks are chiming in, including Fox and its build-up to The Simpsons’ annual “Treehouse of Horror.” Also, Halloween makes a great jumping-off platform to start marketing the most wonderful/lucrative time of the year.

Speaking of ABC Family, it’s changing its name to Freeform, starting this January. The move is meant to attract the larger audience—everyone going from “first kiss to first kid,” according to one network executive—to whom the network has been programming.

Another cable network also looking to grab millennials’ attention is Nickelodeon, which is launching Splat and programming it with nostalgic shows from the 90s, such as Ren & Stimpy, Rugrats and All That.
