Disney-owned streamer Hulu showcased its broad range of spring fare at Tuesday’s virtual meeting of the Television Critics Association, with such shows as limited series The Dropout, starring Amanda Seyfried as Elizabeth Holmes; comedy Life and Beth, from Amy Schumer; and reality show The Kardashians, with the next phase of the famous family’s reality-TV career.
While these new shows prepare for their close-ups, comedy Love, Victor is wrapping up its Hulu run after three seasons, Hulu confirmed on Monday.
The Dropout
Amanda Seyfriend plays Elizabeth Holmes, who famously rose to the heights of Silicon Valley and its venture-capital billions and plummeted to new lows, including being found guilty of criminal fraud and facing up to 20 years in jail.
The Dropout premieres March 3.
Life and Beth
Amy Schumer returns to TV as star and executive producer of Hulu’s Life and Beth. In the series, Beth’s life looks great on paper but she wonders what else it might hold for her—especially as she’s pushing 40.
Besides Schumer, Life and Beth also stars Michael Cera, Susannah Flood, Violet Young, Kevin Kane, Yamaneika Saunders, Laura Benanti, Larry Owens, Michael Rapaport, Rosebud Walker and LaVar Walker.
All 10 episodes premiere March 18.
The Kardashians
After making a big show of their “retirement” from longtime home on E!, The Kardashians – Kim, Khloe, Kourtney, Kylie and Kendall and matriarch Kris Jenner have brought their long-running reality franchise to Hulu.
And because it’s the Kardashians, there’s plenty of drama to mine: Will Kim’s alleged beau Pete Davidson play a recurring role this season? Will Kanye and his new boo, Julia Fox, make an appearance? Will Kourtney’s current love Travis Barker somehow mix it up with her ex and baby daddy Scott Disick? And most importantly: will viewers get to see Kylie’s new baby?
The stylish and neutral-toned teaser Hulu released this week doesn’t offer any answers to these questions but it does give the new show’s premiere date: April 14.
Conversations With Friends
Sally Rooney’s best-selling novel Normal People turned into such a hit for Hulu that it’s no surprise the streamer snapped up her debut novel, Conversations With Friends, and gave it a similar sexy vibe.
Debuting in May on Hulu and BBC Three, the show stars Joe Alwyn (The Favourite) as well as Jemima Kirke (Girls), Alison Oliver and Sasha Lane. The group ends up in a sort of sexual quadrangle with flirtations and affairs hanging over everyone.
