Normal People tracks the romance of two Irish teenagers who come from different social classes. Marianne (Daisy Edgar-Jones) comes from an upper class family, while Connell (Paul Mescal) is well-liked and popular but the fact that his mother works as a maid for Marianne’s parents drives a wedge between them.

Still, the pair find they cannot ignore their attraction to each other and so they embark on a passionate but secret romance. When they both find themselves at Trinity College in Dublin, their relationship changes.

The 12-episode limited series is based on Sally Rooney’s best-selling novel. It’s directed by Lenny Abrahamson (Room) and Hettie McDonald with Abrahamson directing the first six episodes and McDonald the last six.

Rooney worked with Alice Birch and Mark O’Rowe to adapt the novel for television. It comes from Element Pictures (The Favourite, The Lobster) and is executive produced by Ed Guiney, Emma Norton and Anna Ferguson. Rooney and Abrahamson also are executive producers.

All 12 episodes of the limited series will drop on Hulu on Wednesday, April 29, while the show will premiere on BBC Three on April 26.
