Teenage mystery stories gone dark seem to be a thing after the success of The CW’s Riverdale and Nancy Drew so on Dec. 4, Hulu will offer its modern take on The Hardy Boys, starring newcomers Rohan Campbell as Frank and Alexander Elliot as Joe. (People of a certain age will recall that the short-livedThe Hardy Boys of the late 1970s turned Shaun Cassidy and Parker Stevenson briefly into teen heartthrobs.)

In the series, the Hardys move to a nondescript town named Bridgeport, where apparently nothing has ever happened. They soon discover that their dad, Detective Fenton Hardy (James Tupper), moved them there for a reason other than the one he gave, and soon the whole family starts to get their investigation on.

While dad is off doing his own legwork, the Hardy Boys find a group of fast friends who swear to help them no matter what, but it’s pretty clear none of them know what they are really getting into.

The 13-episode first season of The Hardy Boys premieres Dec. 4 on Hulu.
