When asked to reinvent HBO’s classic feature presentation opening sequence, creative agency Imaginary Forces was tasked with coming up with something fresh and original, while staying true to the original sequence from 1983.

“This isn’t just another version, this is a reimagine,” Imaginary Forces says in a video that goes behind the scenes to reveal the creative process.

The agency chose to create a massive, CG world inside the HBO logo, designing every aspect from the trees to the chairs to the bikes, while making sure the on-set rooms felt lived in.

The agency also worked with Man Made Music to interpret a new score that pays homage to the original intro.

The final open combines live-action talent photography with complex CG environments to create something immersive and magical.

“We wanted to represent the entire audience of HBO,” Imaginary Forces says.
