TV One, a network targeted at African-Americans, is premiering original movie Ringside on Sunday, Sept. 4 at 7/6 c.
Ringside is a little bit Fox’s Empire, a little bit Starz’ Power and a little bit DirecTV’s Kingdom. Coming right after the end of the Summer Olympics in Rio, which just allowed professional boxers to fight in the Games this year, the movie stars Tyler Lepley as Jaxon Holley, a college-educated boxer who dreams of becoming the Middleweight Champion of the World.
At the same time, Holley is facing other challenges: he has to take care of his siblings while running a defunct record label and dealing with a tricky relationship.
Ringside is directed by Russ Parr, who’s also famous for hosting the nationally syndicated radio show Russ Parr in the Morning. It stars an all African-American cast that includes Raney Branch, Tequan Richmond, Jackie Long, Sevyn Streeter, Julissa Bermudez, Charlamagne Tha God, Kwame Patterson and Da’Vone McDonald.
