MLB Network and Big Studios took a trip to the circus for the fiery and fun open of the baseball-focused network’s live weekday talk show, Intentional Talk, starring hosts Chris rose and Kevin Miller.
Toronto-based Big Studios worked with MLB Network’s SVP creative services Chris Mallory and art director Jeff Boccia to create the sequence.
“The challenge of combining elephants, fire dancers and acrobats with baseball was really incredible, and the circus shoots were just amazing. Hats off to Chris Mallory who brought the idea to us almost a year ago,” said Jocelyne Meinert, owner and director of Big Studios. “I don’t think baseball has been represented in quite this way before. With its personality-driven interviews, Intentional Talk can be a total carnival. We tried to capture Kevin and Chris’s ‘ringmasters of anything-goes’ approach that has garnered them such a great audience.”
Creative Director Jordan Greenstein adds “MLB Network always lets us go for something really different. The multiple shoots included an actual circus, shooting background plates and all of the acts—elephants, horses, clowns, high-wire [performers] and acrobats, to name a few. We also wanted fire to be a big part of the package so we did another more controlled studio shoot with fire-breathers and fire dancers. Finally we shot Chris and Kevin down in Secaucus on green screen with the MLB team.”
MLB Network has been collaborating with Big Studios since the agency’s launch in 2009, and those collaborations have won two Emmy Awards for outstanding graphic design for the network’s flagship program MLB Tonight.
Intentional Talk airs on MLB Network weekdays at 5 p.m. EST.
