This spot for FX’s upcoming campaign for Tyrant‘s third season was shot last summer, while the show was in production.
It features a scarf wafting across a desert landscape, with images from the show projected onto it to create an ethereal and enigmatic effect.
Last month, Brief ran a Hot Spot featuring Oman TV’s rebrand, which also centers on a scarf, this one blue, starting out as part of the scene and then evolving into something different.
After that spot ran, FX EVP/Creative Director John Varvi emailed Brief to note the similarities between the two spots, even though they had been produced entirely separately from one another.
“If nothing else, it’s an interesting exploration in how a similar concept is realized against decidely different programming. I’d like to believe this is a case of great minds thinking alike and, in this case, at virtually the same time,” he said.
Tyrant premieres on FX on July 25.
