The men who braved the American West knew far less about the country’s wild frontier than we did when we headed to the moon hundreds of years later. It’s this dichotomy that the above promo seeks to illustrate, flashing back and forth between amber-tinted scenes of early America and stark negatives that remind the viewer of the lunar landscape, set to a soundtrack of the 1969 moon landing.

History’s The Men Who Build America: Frontiersmen, an eight-episode series executive produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, digs into the past to tell the stories of such famous early explorers as Daniel Boone, Tecumseh, Lewis & Clark, Andrew Jackson and Davy Crockett.

The series premieres Wednesday, March 7 at 9/8 c on History.
