HBO’s trailer for upcoming drama Succession hones in on family, politics and power with a story about the Roy family which controls one of the biggest media and entertainment conglomerates in the world.
It stars Jeremy Strong as Kendall, who thinks his father Logan (Brian Cox) will step down and he will take over the family company, but is his father has different plans in mind with leads to a power struggle.
“I know that you’ve read a lot of books about business management,” Logan says in the teaser. “But sometimes it is a big dick competition. And I’m concerned you might be soft.”
The show directed by Adam McKay (The Big Short), and is the from the executive producers Jess Armstrong, Adam McKay and Frank Rich of Veep; Kevin Messick, Will Ferrell and Jane Tranter of The Night Of; and Mark Mylod of Entourage.
While the Murdoch family is an obvious inspiration for the series, Armstrong told reporters at the Television Critics Association winter press tour that the stories of William Randolph Hearst, Robert Maxwell and Queen Elizabeth also make their way into the show.
“There’s loads of succession stories to draw on,” Armstrong said, reports Variety. “We wanted to draw on all the good, rich stories there are about success and about media and high politics.
Succession will debut on HBO in June.
