What would happen if famous aviator Charles Lindbergh was elected president during World War II?

HBO explores this concept in its six-part limited series The Plot Against America, based on Philip Roth’s novel of the same name. The alt-history story, told from the perspective of a working-class Jewish family in the ‘40s, imagines a world where Lindbergh is elected over Franklin D. Roosevelt. The aftermath? A rise of anti-Semitism and fascism across the nation.

“Everywhere he goes, Hitler beats down and shoots the Jews. There may be a time where he comes here… to America to beat down and shoot us. What would our president do then?” a voiceover says in the teaser released on Thursday.

The spot previews the characters, conflict and fallout of the series, which stars Zoe Kazan, Morgan Spector, Winona Ryder, and John Turturro. It premieres March 16 on HBO.
