HBO has renewed its Sunday-night comedies, Veep and Silicon Valley, for seasons seven and five, respectively. Both shows will return next year.
Veep stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who has won the Best Actress Emmy five times for playing now former President Selina Meyer. The cast also includes two-time Emmy winner Tony Hale for his role as Meyer’s body man, Gary Walsh; four-time Emmy nominee Anna Chlumsky, Matt Walsh, Reid Scott, Timothy Simons, Kevin Dunn, Gary Cole and Sam Richardson.
Veep was created by Armando Iannuci, who departed the show after season four, and is now executive produced by former Seinfeld EP David Mandel along with Frank Rich, Louis-Dreyfus, Lew Morton, and Morgan Sackett.
Silicon Valley, which has been nominated for 21 Emmys and won two, is in its fourth season. The show focuses on a start-up that’s always on the cusp of huge success set, as its name would suggest, in Silicon Valley.
The series was created by Mike Judge (Office Space, Beavis & Butthead), John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky and stars Thomas Middleditch, T.J. Miller, Zach Woods, Kumail Nanjiani, Martin Starr, Josh Brener, Amanda Crew, Matt Ross, Jimmy O. Yang and Suzanne Cryer.
Miller, who plays blowhard entrepreneur Erlich Bachmann, will not return for season five.
“The producers of Silicon Valley and T.J. Miller have mutually agreed that T.J. will not return for season 5,” said HBO in a statement. “In Erlich Bachman, T.J. has brought to life an unforgettable character, and while his presence on the show will be missed, we appreciate his contribution and look forward to future collaborations.”
Miller has broken out since the show premiered, starring in movies such as Office Christmas Party, Deadpool, the upcoming Emoji Movie and several more, as well as other series, such as Comedy Central’s The Gorburger Show and HBO’s Crashing
Both shows’ current seasons conclude on Sunday, June 25.
