Younger audiences of today probably mostly know Jane Fonda as the more uptight half of Netflix’s Grace and Frankie, but HBO reminds us in its upcoming documentary that there’s so much more to the actress and activist who has been in front of the camera her whole life.
“I’m proud of most of what I did and I’m very sorry for some of what I did,” says Fonda just after footage that shows her protesting the Vietnam War.
The documentary, by director Susan Lacy, draws on 21 hours of interviews with the 80-year-old star, as well as intimate home video and interviews with castmates and colleagues, including Robert Redford and Lily Tomlin.
HBO will premiere Jane Fonda in Five Acts, which first debuted last January at the Sundance Film Festival, on Monday, Sept. 24.
