HBO is making two of its most anticipated premieres available for free to viewers—regardless of whether they’re a subscriber—in the latest move by a network to give people a taste of a new season in the hopes that it will lure them in for more.

The premium network is making Sunday’s record-breaking “Game of Thrones” premiere available to all Xbox users for free, while the first episode of new comedy “Silicon Valley” is up on YouTube. Xbox users will be able to watch the “Game of Thrones” premiere—which earned 6.6 million viewers on Sunday and crashed HBO Go—until April 14. No word on when “Silicon Valley” will come down from YouTube.

Other shows that have recently seen the first episode made available for free ahead of time include Showtime’s “Years of Living Dangerously” and Pivot’s “Hit RECord on TV.”

Brief Take: Even blockbuster and buzzy shows need an extra boost in this increasingly competitive television landscape. With viewers facing an ever-increasing selection of shows on offer, look for more networks to give them a taste of one (or more) episodes in an effort to lure them in for the entire season.
