Michael Gandolfini follows in his father’s big footsteps when he takes on the role of young Tony Soprano in New Line’s The Many Saints of Newark.

The prequel to HBO’s iconic crime drama The Sopranos features the rise of Tony as he navigates his relationship with the uncle he idolizes, Dicki Moltisanti (Alessandro Nivola), father of Christopher (Michael Imperioli).

The film also stars Leslie Odom Jr. (Hamilton, One Night in Miami), Jon Bernthal (Baby Driver), Corey Stoll (First Man), Billy Magnussen (The Big Short), Michela De Rossi (Boys Cry), John Magaro (The Finest Hours), along with Ray Liotta (Goodfellas) and Vera Farmiga as Tony’s mother, Livia Soprano.

Veteran Sopranos director Alan Taylor directs from a screenplay by Sopranos’ creator David Chase and Lawrence Konner. Chase, Konner and Nicole Lambert produce, with Michael Disco, Marcus Viscidi, Toby Emmerich and Richard Brener serving as executive producers.

The feature film opens in theaters and plays for 31 days on ad-free HBO Max starting Oct. 1.
