Verizon’s Netflix competitor, Redbox Instant, is coming to Google TV, according to an announcement today on the Google TV blog. Available on limited smart TVs and TV devices (like LG smart TVs, the NETGEAR NeoTV Prime and the Vizio Co-Star), Google TV is using the addition of this app in its plan to appear more and more as a competitor to Apple TV and other TV devices.
Redbox subscribers can use the app on Google TV to stream movies and TV shows, rent content through its online store, or pick up a DVD through one of its kiosks.
Read more about it at the Google TV blog and Tech Crunch.
Brief Take: It will be interesting to see how this stacks up on Google TV, as its main competitor Netflix is already on the platform.
