While post-show coverage of this year’s highly politicized show has likely reached a high, viewership for the Golden Globes, like that for most awards shows, fell again compared to last year.
Among viewers, the 2018 Golden Globes, which celebrated the awards’ 75th anniversary, was down 5 percent to an average of 19 million viewers compared to last year’s 20 million. Among primetime’s key demographic of adults 18-49, the show averaged a 5.0 rating, down 11 percent from last year’s 5.6.
While those numbers fell from last year, they are still high compared to rival awards shows. The 2018 Golden Globes on NBC marked the most-watched and highest-rated non-sports telecast since the Oscars in 2017, and it’s the third-highest-ranked awards show on TV behind only the Oscars and the Grammys.
The show was hosted by Seth Meyers of NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers, but other than the monologue, Meyers spent very little time on stage.
