Season two of GLOW is all about the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling really getting into their characters as they become an extension of their personalities.
“Because season two is about the shooting of the show GLOW, even when we’re not wrestling we’re often in our wrestling looks, and that actually has been one of the most fun things about shooting this season,” Alison Brie, who plays Ruth Wilder, says in Netflix’s featurette, above.
The show focuses on Ruth, an out-of-work struggling actress in 1980s Los Angeles who is thrust into the world of women’s wrestling, and Debbie Eagan (Betty Gilpin) a former soap actress who left the business to have a baby, only to be sucked back into work when her picture perfect life is not what it seems.
In season two, they settle into the day day-to-day of making a season of television together while confronting the lingering issues at the heart of their friendship and embracing the world of spandex, glitter and hairspray.
“I think our hair grew with our characters,” said Ellen Wong, who plays character Jenny Chey.
Season two also sees the ladies finding a new level of confidence.
“I think that we try to ask the difficult questions about what sometimes feels like a contraction,” Gilpin said. “Maintaining your femininity and vulnerability, while also claiming your power.”
