At great long last, Netflix announced at summer TCA the date when the Gilmore Girls (now both fully women, to be fair) will return: November 25, right on time to allow everyone to binge it over the Thanksgiving holiday.
Gilmore Girls: A Day in the Life will feature Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Rory (Alexis Bleidel) in four 90-minute episodes that take place over the course of a year: winter, spring, summer, fall.
The show was always known for its fast-paced, free-flowing pop-culture references, and this promo is no different, with Lorelai name-dropping both Amy Schumer and John Oliver.
The show is also known for its quippy dialogue, and at Netflix’s panel, Graham and Bleidel said it was natural to slip right back into that vibe.
“It was exhilarating, it was fun, it was the old show,” said Graham, who added she had been craving the more structured, theatrical, elevated role of her Gilmore Girls character.
Bleidel said agreed that going back into Rory’s way of speaking felt natural.
“Jumping in, it was like no time had passed,” she said. “You know how it’s supposed to be said, and it’s all there for you.”
Gilmore Girls: A Day in the Life also features the return of show creator and original showrunner, Amy Sherman-Palladino, who left the series before its final season. Sherman-Palladino is teaming with her husband, Dan, to produce the series via her Dorothy Parker Drank Here production banner in conjunction with Warner Bros. Television.
