FXX will celebrate the launch of “The Simpsons” in cable syndication with a potentially record-breaking 12-day marathon and an ambitious new “Simpsons World” digital hub that will let fans watch any episode of the iconic series on demand.

Chuck Saftler, FX Networks’ programming chief and COO, told the TCA summer press tour on Monday that FXX would air all 552 “Simpsons” episodes in chronological order over the 12-day period—24 hours a day—making it the longest marathon in television history. And yes, Saftler added, “The Simpsons Movie” would be included, airing just after episode 400.

The marathon will begin August 21, 2014 at 10 AM ET/PT and will conclude September 1, 2014 at 12 AM ET/PT.

Beginning September 2nd, FXX will move into its regular scheduling of “The Simpsons” (daily in fringe, primetime and late-night dayparts).

Every Sunday, FXX will also lead into the weekly Fox broadcast of the latest episode with a thematic mini-marathon of eight “Simpsons” episodes beginning at 4 PM ET/PT.

Perhaps more exciting for fans of the iconic animated series, FXX will also launch a new website and app that will allow instant, on-demand streaming of any “Simpsons” episode.

But FXX is aiming for more than a simple VOD experience, with President of Marketing & On-Air Promotions Stephanie Gibbons walking the press tour audience through all of the ways in which the new “Simpsons World” could serve as the ultimate digital hub for true fans:

-Users will be able to instantly find and share clips to any social platform or their own blogs and website

-A running sidebar of the VOD player presents the script as written, allowing fans to instantly select and share their favorite “Simpsons” quotes

-Detailed character landing pages give full bios, along with related information —such as all of Sideshow Bob’s attempted murder victims—and favorite character clips

-A “Simpsons Heartbeat” that shows which episodes are currently trending on the platform

-Trivia and facts about episodes and clips that provide deeper context to favorite episodes and characters.

-User-generated playlists, as well as a curated set of channels that feature everything from every episode in chronological order, to every animal-themed episode.

Gibbons promised that “Simpsons World” would be the “deepest digital archive of any TV show on TV, ever.”

The network plans an October rollout — Gibbons said probably Oct. 20-24 — with clips being available for free, and full episodes requiring authentication through a cable provider. Saftler said that about the network has deals with about 60 percent of providers in place, and is moving to secure deals with the remainders.

One major company not on the initial list: VerizonFIOS. But Saftler promised a nervous Simpsons Fan/Critic in the TCA audience that “a deal will be done.”

All of the content will be available via SimpsonsWorld.com, and FXNOW apps for iPhone, iPad, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Android phones and tablets, Smart TVs, and additional set-tops devices.

Critics also got a taste of the on-air spots that will promote the arrival of every “Simpsons” episode ever on FXX. Picture overflowing sinks, flooded living rooms, abandoned lawnmowers running amok, wild animals roaming the streets, and other scenes of utter destruction as the world sits completely mesmerized by their screens. The tagline: “Every. Simpsons. Ever: We’re All Going to Die.” Cut to the iconic screaming Homer.
