FX officially moves three of its comedy series to FXX tonight, and its series’ stars have been getting the word out via some heartfelt public service announcements as well as a few moving tips—like don’t try to help NFL wide receivers move. They don’t need the help.
Series like “The League,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” and “Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell” move to FXX for their season premieres tonight, and the new network decided its main challenge in the marketing strategy was making sure people knew where to look for the launch. The shows turned to their stars for support, and the result is a clever mix of humor, tears and moving frustration.
For the first of such PSAs, Taco from “The League” joined NFL defensive end J.J. Watt to make sure people knew how to get the word out about finding FXX on air to their less informed friends:
Next, “The League’s” Ruxin decides to help out the NFL’s Greg Jennings with his move with some ulterior motives:
“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” went about a similar moving strategy, with a “new look, same taste” type of promotion:
New channel… same Sunny. FXX then went with the same angle to promote FX’s “Always Sunny,” now with more X:
The quirky comedy’s theme ended up on “New season, new night, new channel ... still hot.” “The League” ended on an emotional note with Greg Jennings breaking down during his PSA:
