The Bold Type, Freeform’s hit dramedy that premiered in 2017, has been renewed for a fourth season. Series stars Aisha Dee, Meghann Fahy and Katie Stevens announced the return during Disney’s upfront presentation on Tuesday, May 14.
Based on the life of Cosmopolitan Magazine’s former editor in chief, Joanna Coles, the series follows three young women working for the New York magazine while balancing their relationships and personal lives. Wendy Straker Hauser, who’s been with the series since season one, will take over for Amanda Lasher as the new showrunner.
Also returning for its third season is Siren, the popular mermaid thriller that ranked number one among adults and women 18-49 during the first half of its second season. The second half is slated to premiere Thursday, June 13 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
Set in the small fishing village of Bristol Cove, the series follows the struggle between the town’s residents and the legendary aquatic creatures. It stars Eline Powell, Alex Roe, Fola Evans-Akingbola, Ian Verdun and Rena Owen.
Freeform also announced that beginning this September, the network will begin airing reruns from all 30 seasons of The Simpsons. The longest-running scripted series will continue to air on FXX, which had exclusive airing rights since 2014, and the series’ primary network, Fox.
Freeform’s current programming will also undergo a few revisions, including the expansion of “31 Nights of Halloween,” which will feature a new original special and new movies like Ghostbusters and the Scream trilogy.
When the holidays come around, the network will debut a new competition reality series, Wrap Battle, where “DIY-ers” will compete in an elimination gift-wrapping competition to win $50,000.
Three other new original series will join the 2019-20 lineup:
Motherland: Fort Salem
Set in a world where gender is flipped and witches ended their persecution by fighting for their country, Motherland: Fort Salem follows three young women from basic training in combat magic into early deployment.
The series stars Ashley Nicole Williams, Jessica Sutton, Taylor Hickson, Demetria McKinney and Amalia Holm. Motherland: Fort Salem is executive produced by Eliot Laurence, Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Kevin Messick, Maria Maggenti and Steven Adelson.
Party of Five
Party of Five follows the Acosta children in the aftermath of their parents’ deportation back to Mexico.
Created by Chris Keyser and Amy Lippman, who also serve as executive producers and writers, the series stars Brandon Larracuente, Emily Tosta, Niko Guardado and Elle Paris Legaspi.
Everything’s Gonna Be Okay
The series introduces Nicholas, a neurotic 25-year-old visiting his single dad and two teenage half-sisters, one of whom is on the autism spectrum. When their dad reveals he is terminally ill, Nicholas, who was never involved with his family, must step up to the plate and support them all.
The series is created, written by, and starring Please Like Me’s Josh Thomas. Stephanie Swedlove and Kevin Whyte also serve as executive producers, with David Martin, Jon Thoday, and Richard Allen-Turner executive producing for Avalon Television.
