Fran Shea has been named executive vice president, programming and marketing, at GSN.
“Fran has an impressive track record of creating phenomenally successful and culturally relevant content. Her creative vision and leadership will be critical to GSN as we continue to enhance our programming choices, both original and acquired, to engage our core viewers,” said CEO Mark Feldman, to whom she will report, in a statement.
In her new role, she is responsible for overseeing in-house production, acquisitions, development, network branding and messaging to viewers.
Prior to joining GSN, Shea ran her own industry consultant firm, Fran Shea Consulting, which counted GSN as a client along with HBO, Cinemax, VH-1, E!, Spain-based Hola!/Hello Magazine and Latin American channel, Hola!TV, among many others.
Previously, Shea founded HBOlab in 2007, a content-driven creative experiment within HBO that explored a variety of business models using digital content to build and grow audiences.
Shea served as president of E! Entertainment Television from 1999 to 2001, and was senior vice president of programming at E! from 1990-99.
She began her career in production and worked at HBO for a decade as a producer and executive.
Shea graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a B.S. in journalism and holds a masters in media studies from The New School in New York.
