Fox Sports has teamed up with virtual reality app developer LiveLike on a new app available to iOS and Android users.
The first opportunity to try the new app in real time comes Saturday, Sept. 17, when viewers will be able to watch a college football match-up between Ohio State and Oklahoma at 7:30 p.m. ET.
To watch the event, viewers need to download and install the Fox Sports VR app and sign in with their television provider credentials, just like they sign in to TV Everywhere apps. The experience can then be watched without any special equipment on mobile devices, or through Gear VR or cardboard headsets.
LiveLike’s apps create the experience of watching a game from inside a VIP suite in the stadium. App users can either watch the game from within this virtual suite or from various on-field perspectives. Simultaneously, they’ll also be able to see an in-stadium viewing board that will be airing the Fox Sports television broadcast. Information included in the app on demand are full team rosters, team schedules and player stats
New York-based LiveLike has partnered with other broadcasters to create similar VR sports experiences, working with Sky Sports on English Premier League games, Roland Garros on the French Open tennis tournament, Manchester City, Sky German and El Clasico.
