Fox News Chief Roger Ailes is expected to depart the company, reports New York Magazine‘s Gabriel Sherman, author of “The Loudest Voice in the Room: How the Brilliant, Bombastic Roger Ailes Built Fox News—and Divided a Country,” citing two unnamed sources close to the situation.

According to Sherman, all three Murdochs who run 21st Century Fox—patriarch Rupert and brothers James and Lachlan—agree that the 76-year-old Ailes, credited with building Fox News, must go after former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson filed a lawsuit alleging sexual harassment. Law firm Paul, Weiss is conducting an investigation of the situation on behalf of 21st Century Fox, which also includes looking into Ailes’ management style.

In question is when Ailes would depart and whether he would resign voluntarily or be fired. According to Sherman, James would prefer to end the relationship now, while Rupert and Lachlan want to wait until after the Republican National Convention taking place in Cleveland this week.

At this point, Fox is neither confirming nor denying the report: “This matter is not yet resolved and the review is not concluded,” a 21st Century Fox spokesperson said in a statement.

Carlson initially leveled her allegations, which are against Ailes personally and not Fox News generally, in a suit filed in Superior Court of New Jersey. She also filed a complaint against her former Fox & Friends co-host, Steve Doocy. She left the network in June.

On July 6, Ailes released a statement saying that Carlson’s allegations were false: “This is a retaliatory suit for the network’s decision not to renew her contract, which was due to the fact that her disappointingly low ratings were dragging down the afternoon lineup. When Fox News did not commence any negotiations to renew her contract, Ms. Carlson became aware that her career with the network was likely over and conveniently began to pursue a lawsuit. Ironically, Fox News provided her with more on-air opportunities over her 11 year tenure than any other employer in the industry, for which she thanked me in her recent book. This defamatory lawsuit is not only offensive, it is wholly without merit and will be defended vigorously.”
