In advance of the global launch of Outcast, the new series from The Walking Dead’s Robert Kirkman, Fox Networks Group (recently rebranded from Fox International Channels), working with UK’s Red Bee Media, put together a multi-platform global campaign that’s rolling out in 12 cities, including Berlin, Istanbul, Kuala Lumpur, London, Manila, Singapore, Sofia, Stockhom, Sydney and Zagreb. The team also teased the stunt at Comic-Con Naples, Italy, which ran from April 28 to May 1.
Working with artist Paul Azaceta, who did the art for the graphic novel on which Outcast is based, Fox Networks Group distributed key frames from the series drawn by Azaceta and asked artists in different cities to elaborate on them. The frames are drawn from a scene in the pilot that doesn’t appear in the original graphic novel.
Examples of how the murals turned out are below:
Outcast, which premiered its first trailer (above) at San Diego Comic-Con last July, was renewed for season two on March 14, nearly three months before season one even debuted. In the U.S., Outcast will premiere on Cinemax on Friday, June 3, with the rest of the world to follow on Saturday, June 4.
The series is airing on Fox Networks Group channels in more than 125 territories around the world, mimicking FNG’s global debut for The Walking Dead in 2010. Outcast is the first production that FNG produced specifically for its international channels, unlike Walking Dead, which was first produced for AMC and then sold internationally.
While Kirkman’s The Walking Dead was in publication for seven years before it came to TV, Outcast, the graphic novel, was developed by Kirkman with TV in mind. The novel tells the story of Kyle Barnes, played by Patrick Fugit, a man whose life and loved ones have been taken over by demons since he was a child.
