Comic-Con fans staring up at the three-story rock wall in Bayfront Park had two choices: chicken out and take the stairs, or scale the mighty Mount Zephyria rock wall as the Son of Zorn would do.

Either way, they got down with a free fall jump onto a massive cushion—and walked away with a video to prove it as special cameras captured the made-for-social experience, and fans used the on-site photo booth to email it to themselves.

Less adventurous visitors could also take a ride on Zorn’s 10-foot tall Death Hawk.

“Non traditional events like this really break through the clutter,” said Ryan Coan, vice president and business development at Creative Riff, the agency that worked with Fox on the activations at Comic-Con 2016.

Fox’s new hybrid live-action and animated comedy features the voice of Jason Sudeikis (Last Man on Earth) as Zorn, an animated warrior living in an animated world, who returns home to his live-action ex-wife (Cheryl Hines) and teenage son (Johnny Pemberton) in Orange County, Calif., and tries to reconnect with his family.

To promote its fall remake of Rocky Horror Picture Show, Fox also tapped into the tradition of getting dressed up to see a performance with a lip-transformation station. Makeup artists painted fans with the iconic red lips from the show, or they could chose from different options like rainbow, comic pink or American flag designs. Participants stood in front of a background for a photo at a social sharing station to email the image to themselves and post it online.

“What we do have is that cult following,” said Ian Green, manager of Wide Angle staffing agency at the event.

Abby Garcia took her daughter Ally to the activation to help acquaint her with the traditions around to the The Rocky Horror Picture Show before she heads off to college.

“I try to introduce her to things I grew up with,” Garcia said. “Well, the good stuff.”

Indeed, the point of the Fox activations was to give back to the fans.

“This really is the center of fandom, bringing them an experience,” Coan said.
