Fox Entertainment and its animation studio, Bento Box Entertainment, are entering the Non-Fungible Token (NFT) market with the launch of business and creative unit Blockchain Creative Labs. Fox acquired Bento Box, which produces such series for Fox as Bob’s Burgers and Duncanville, in August 2019.

Blockchain Creative Labs will provide content creators, owners of intellectual property (such as studios and production companies) and advertising partners end-to-end blockchain computer ecosystem solutions that will allow them to build, launch, manage and sell NFT content and experiences, and fungible tokens, as well as digital goods and assets. In addition, Fox Entertainment and Bento Box have formed a $100 million creator fund that Blockchain Creative Labs will manage.

Scott Greenberg, co-founder and CEO of Bento Box Entertainment, will also serve as CEO of Blockchain Creative Labs and remain based in Los Angeles. Greenberg reports to Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier.

“For years, alongside some of the world’s finest animation talent, Scott and the Bento Box team have produced world-class original animated content. The emergence of blockchain technology has given birth to a new marketplace that is a natural extension of Bento Box’s talents; one that allows the team to support, elevate and reward innovators and artists in new and creatively exciting ways. Our new company, Blockchain Creative Labs, also under Scott and Bento Box, will help shape and grow the fast-evolving world of creatively-led digital goods and tokens,” said Collier in a statement.

Blockchain Creative Labs’ first blockchain-curated series is Krapopolis, created by Community and Rick and Morty’s Dan Harmon. Fox first announced the series at its upfront presentation last month.

“Dan, Blockchain Creative Labs, Bento Box and Fox – using its signature night of primetime animation, Animation Domination—will all be fan-focused from day-one, curating Krapopolis-related content on the blockchain from character development right up through premiere night in 2022,” said Collier.

Krapopolis is set in mythical ancient Greece and will be centered on a flawed family composed of humans, gods and monsters. The animated series is fully owned and financed by Fox and will be produced by Bento Box. Blockchain Creative Labs will manage and sell digital Krapopolis goods, including NFTs such as exclusive backgrounds, GIFs and tokens that provide access to exclusive social experiences.

“Entrepreneurs at our core, Fox and Bento Box are uniquely situated to bring exciting offerings to the digital goods, token and NFT marketplace,” said Greenberg, also in a statement. “Our longstanding relationships within the creative community allow us to harness this technology to bridge together brands and producers with fans in new and interesting ways, and we’re looking forward to seizing this opportunity.”
