CBS News has named former NBC News president Steve Capus as the new executive producer of “CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley,” and executive editor of CBS News.

The appointment comes as sister program “60 Minutes” is trying to decide what to do with star reporter Lara Logan, in the wake of an embarrassing October report on the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi that was riddled with errors.

Capus left NBC News early last year after 20 years at the network. He will report to CBS News president David Rhodes.

“The ‘Evening News’ is an excellent broadcast, and we believe under Steve’s leadership it will get even better,” said CBS News Chairman and ’60 Minutes’ exec producer Jeff Fager. “He is a real pro with an extraordinary record, and we are fortunate to have him joining us at CBS News.”

On the Logan front, Fager is still deciding what to do, although New York Magazine reported that she is still expected to return to the show. Capus, for the record, will not be responsible for Logan’s fate.
