Forest Whitaker and Vincent D’Onofrio star in Epix’s latest original series, Godfather of Harlem, which is inspired by the story of crime boss Bumpy Johnson (Whitaker).

In the early 1960s, Johnson returned from a decade spent in prison to find the neighborhood he once dominated in shambles. To regain control, he must take on the Genovese crime family. To do that, he forms an alliance with radical preacher Malcolm X (Nigel Thatch), who’s on the rise in the civil rights movement.

The series also stars Giancarlo Esposito, Paul Sorvino and Ilfenesh Hadera. It’s produced by ABC Signature Studios and written by Narcos co-creator Chris Brancato and Paul Eckstein.

Godfather of Harlem premieres on Epix and Epix Now on Sept. 29.
