It looks like Fox’s Gotham has a new Batmobile in mind for its hero/villain story set before the icon himself emerged on the scene.

Just one week away from its series premiere, DC Comics drama Gotham signed Ford as a sponsor for its first season, set to debut Monday, Sept. 22. The series is set in Gotham City years before Batman was even an idea in Bruce Wayne’s mind, beginning at the scene of Bruce’s parents’ murder when Commissioner Gordon (Benjamin McKenzie) was a young detective, Catwoman (Camren Bicondova) an adolescent pickpocket and The Riddler (Cory Michael Smith) a promising forensic scientist.

Ford began its sponsorship at an advanced screening of the show’s first episode on Monday night in New York, where the Ford logo was seen throughout the event and a vintage Ford sedan was re-created to resemble a Gotham City police car. Going forward, Ford’s in-show appearances will most likely follow these lines, as the Gotham City that viewers will see on Fox has a retro look that might not work with current Ford cars on the market today, but instead take on a vintage feel to match the show’s stylized aesthetics.

This is not the first Fox series Ford has latched itself onto - though it has decreased its involvement over the years, the automaker has been part of the sponsor group on American Idol.

Brief Take: With Gotham’s sponsorship, Ford becomes one of the first of many companies who are taking an early chance on the show, joining Netflix which bought the rights to the show before its premiere. If the show’s ratings live up to its promotion, it surely won’t be the last.
